The Stop Quartet (1996, 2008)

The Stop Quartet (1996, 2008) Jonathan Burrows

First performed in 1996, The Stop Quartet is based on the idea that each of the layers of the performance – dance, music and light – have holes cut in them through which one can see other layers. The choreography is a web of rhythmic counterpoint. This leads to constant watchfulness and alertness among the dancers, as we see in the later duets by Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion. The 2008 re-take of the piece features original dancers Henry Montes and Burrows himself as well as Ragnhild Olsen and Andros Zins-Browne.
